Comparison
Practice Harbor vs SimplePractice
Full disclosure up front: I built Practice Harbor, so read this the way you'd read any founder's comparison — check the claims. Every SimplePractice number below comes from their published pricing page as of September 2026, and I've included a section on what they genuinely do better, because they do some things better.
The short version
SimplePractice is the category's long-standing leader: mature, widely adopted, with an ecosystem of add-ons. Practice Harbor is one plan with everything included — built around the idea that AI note-taking, telehealth, group therapy, and measurement-based care shouldn't be upsells. If your practice uses AI notes, the monthly difference is large; if you need ePrescribe, SimplePractice offers it and we don't.

Where SimplePractice is stronger
- Track record and community. They've served the field for over a decade; the community knowledge base is unmatched.
- Template marketplace. A large library of shareable note and intake templates.
- ePrescribe. Available as an add-on; Practice Harbor doesn't offer prescribing.
- Client-facing directory. Monarch gives their customers a listing surface we don't have an equivalent for.
Where Practice Harbor is stronger
- One honest price. $19/month solo; group practices $39 + $19 per additional licensed clinician, with pre-licensed associates free — AI notes, telehealth, groups, and measures included rather than tiered and added-on.
- AI documentation without a second subscription. Dictate, record, or type; the note structures itself. No per-clinician AI fee.
- Usage-priced insurance. $0.25/claim and $0.15/eligibility check — a low-volume insurance caseload doesn't pay for an insurance-heavy plan tier.
- Transparent card processing. Flat 3.15% + 30¢, stated on the pricing page.
- Group therapy as a first-class feature. Roster groups with per-member notes and group claims, included.
Switching
Practice Harbor has a self-serve SimplePractice importer (Settings → EHR Import): upload your SimplePractice export and it brings over clients, couples, note PDFs as readable chart notes, treatment plans, and insurance details — with a one-click undo. Our step-by-step switching guide maps out a one-week transition, including the parallel-run safety net.
Questions therapists ask
What does a solo therapist actually pay per month on each?
Practice Harbor: $19 flat for a solo clinician, claims at $0.25 each. SimplePractice with AI notes: the $79–$99 plan plus the $59 Care Aide add-on — typically $138–$158/month per their published pricing as ofSeptember 2026, before processing fees.
What does SimplePractice do better?
Longevity, community, the template marketplace, ePrescribe, and the Monarch directory. This page would be less useful if it pretended otherwise.
Can I move my clients over?
Yes — demographics import plus document upload, usually under a week for a solo practice. The switching guide walks every step.
